Thursday, November 19,2015.

Hi Everyone,

We had a great day today!

Today We:

- Officially began on unit on patterning and algebra
-We did an introduction and played some games on the SMART board

Linear Growing Patterns Lesson

-we also did a few examples as a class, and will continue to look at t-tables and various representations of patterns tomorrow

-the class also had Drama today as it was day 5

We had a special presentation in our class from the Elementary Student Success Teacher, Mr. Munn. He came to talk to us about digital citizenship again. We had some great discussion, watched some movies, and did some group work. The students were actively engaged, and had a lot to share about social media, cell phones, online gaming, cyber bullying etc.

Here are some pictures of groups working on texting "Do's" and "Don'ts":

We also had science, the grade 8's did a lab, and observed onion and cheek cells under microscopes while the 7's did some partner/group work, furthering their understanding of succession.

The Grade 7 Questions were homework if they were not completed in class.

Here are some pictures of our grade 8 future scientists/lab technicians:

Fouz and Wessex hard at work.
Avery making some observations.

Partners Ashley and Destiny investigate.
Layla multi-tasking.

Presten checking to make sure
Collin's got the right idea.

After science, we had music and started learning how to play the glockenspiel. I hope to get some videos of the students playing next music class. It sounded great, especially for our first time.

Welcome back to our Class blog!

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your continued support and patience, in regard to both your child's academics, and work to rule. While work to rule was on, business as usual was happening in our classroom, but, I was not able to post about it on here. Now that it's over, I'm going to do my best to post regular updates on what is happening in our classroom to help keep everyone informed.

I can't believe there is only one month left until the Holiday Break and we are having such beautiful weather (hope I didn't just jinx it)!

Today we:

-Finished (almost everyone) the Data Management Unit Test, I'm looking forward to marking those and getting them back to students ASAP

-we are now beginning our unit on patterning and algebra

- French

-Had 100 minutes of Literacy:
-Independent reading/work on novel study -we are on the 3rd novel study-due mid- December
-Visualization Reading Strategy Practice mini lesson/practice (the students enjoyed finding the countries we read about on google maps and actually seeing what the countries looked like-it felt like we were actually there- so cool!)
-Word Work- "Word Art Wednesday" with our 10 vocabulary words
-Mini Lesson and PowerPoint on some literary devices ( simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, understatement, etc.)

Science
Gr. 8's: worked on a Venn Diagram comparing plant and animal cells, and began learning about osmosis and diffusion

Gr. 7's: learning about primary and secondary succession and answered some follow up questions after a power point presentation

Health (in the computer lab)
Grade 7's: started researching a student- selected health disorder with a partner
